Welcome to a new phase of India

Until 6:42pm today, I had seen only three, yes just three, images or posts of Bhagat Singh and this is the tribute we are giving to someone who sacrificed his life for our nation, for our freedom!!

I know many of you aren’t aware that it’s his birthday today! That’s what our country has come to where we don’t even have time to pay tribute to our freedom heroes!!! And by heroes I don’t mean the ones we watch and idolize on screens. What disappoints me most is the way today’s young people revere these so-called heroes or actors, who hardly do anything for the society – oh wait they make movies for us to watch – thank you actors we would have died without your movies!!

People remember these actors’ dialogues (I don’t think they write their own dialogues, anyway), but not our real fighters’ words! People give these actors holy baths with milk and what not, but fail to give our national heroes a simple tribute!!

Welcome to a new India – a country where we now admire our so-called heroes!!!

Indian movies and audiences – 1

Grand Masti is nearing 100crore mark!!

Although I have no issues with adult movie making it big, but a movie that degrades women and exhibit them as sexual objects garnering such audiences is more disheartening.

On the one side, the nation is protesting and fighting to procure respect to women, while on the other, the audiences are encouraging such movies, by such I mean vulgar and cheap!!

If filmmakers continue making such derogatory stuff, demeaning women, and if Indian audiences continue encouraging them then I would have to say, with much disappointment, people will hardly look at women with respect!!

Make movies to entertain people not mislead them, please!!!

What exactly is America?

When American Nina Davuluri won the Miss America contest, the self-claimed Americans went on a rage and tweeted abuses and racist remarks.

A couple of tweets that were caught by my foul sarcastic mind are:
‘If you're #Miss America you should have to be American’
‘WHEN WILL A WHITE WOMAN WIN #MISSAMERICA? Ever??!!’

Well, one thing I want to ask these self-claimed Americans, how exactly do you define your nationality?
If you say only fair-skinned people are Americans, then my dear, do you really think you’ll have anything left in your country if you minus the dark-skinned, brown-skinned?  Oh yes, there will, ofcourse be, Asians, Mexicans and some Europeans, I guess!

And about a white woman becoming Miss America, it’s a contest and contests are won by deserving ones not White or Black or Brown or Cream or Grey or Red!!

We Indians celebrate everything!

Nina Davuluri, an American whose parents were born in India, won the Miss America contest. Entire nation was overwhelmed and exhibited jubilation. But, a little clarification, the nation here I’m talking about is India. After the widespread news about her win and Indian celebrations, I undertook a background check wondering did we send her to the contest; however, I didn’t find any such case!

Yes, I do agree, she has an Indian link, or rather Indian ‘roots’ but why are we overdoing the celebrations for an American becoming Miss America? Ms. Davuluri herself has stated that she is foremost an ‘American’.

Probably, it’s because of our well-known fetish for celebrations; we attend our cousin friend sister nephew’s birthday with the same excitement as of our brother’s marriage. No doubt we have umpteen number of festivals and more stories justifying our celebrations.

Well, that’s exactly how we Indians are – love us or hate us we’ll celebrate for both!!

I Yam Engineer

Oh yes, that’s exactly how more than half of them introduce themselves as.

Wait, are you sneering at the grammar? Most of them don’t even know how you pronounce the word ‘engineering’. If you ask them why they chose to pursue this course, you’ll hardly find anyone saying, “I want to become an engineer”, instead, the answers you’ll come across would be “it’s the cheapest of all courses now” (I’m cuing at the YSR’s free education disaster in Andhra Pradesh), “had no better thing to do”, “because it’s a four years’ course”, “my parents wanted me to join a big college” (oh yes, arts colleges are not considered to be big now), “all of my friends are doing engineering”, “the girl I had crush on since forever is in this college”, although the list goes on and on, the closest sane reply you could get is, “I want to get a well-paid job” and trust me, after the end of those interesting four years, they would ask themselves “What the hell was I thinking?!”

After a rollercoaster ride of four years involving ragging, affairs, scholarships, break-ups, practical classes, fests, meaningless internals tests, projects (that most of them actually buy), 40-page external exams, what it really boils down to is to make a decision of what next?

And how they make the decision?  Simple – if they have money plus, they’ll usually opt for MS in US or Australia or Canada or any place, whatsoever, out of India, if they have less money the default choice would be MBA (only god knows what exactly runs through their mind that they go for a business specialized course after doing a technical degree), and finally if they have job (no matter what engineering course they might have done, you’ll find them looking for a software job!), they obediently dedicate their whole lives either bragging or complaining about pay-checks. There are also those who gain lust for technical stuff and opt for M-tech.

But there are always few odd-ones out who try to give their lives a meaning by doing what they love. Among them, however, there are some who only count the hours they didn’t sleep – what they do during that time no one has any idea!!

If they have nothing? Well, an engineer always finds something to do, be it doing any crash courses, applying for government jobs and so on so forth!

P.S. I’m an engineer myself! :D
